If you're a fan of refreshing, unique desserts, there's a delightful little gem in Singapore that you absolutely must check out: Duke Dessert in the Fortune Center on Middle Road! This sweet haven is famous for its rich, flavourful chendol and a variety of other cold treats that will make your taste buds do a happy dance. With all the buzz surrounding this delicious dessert den, it's no wonder folks are lining up for a taste. So grab your spoon and get ready for a delightful experience!
On our visit, we were eager to dive into the famed chendol, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The moment we walked in, the vibrant energy and the scent of sweet desserts were enough to build up our anticipation. We ordered a variety of items to sample, and our excitement was only heightened as we waited for our number to be called, eyeing the dishes being served to other customers. Everything looked delicious!
The Durian Chendol: Heavenly
The star of the show has to be the durian chendol. If you're a durian lover, this is a must-try. The green chendol noodles are thick and have the perfect bite — they’re not too soft, which gives them a satisfying texture. But what sets this chendol apart is the ice. Instead of regular shaved ice, it's made from rich coconut milk, giving it an incredibly creamy consistency that melts in your mouth. The coconut cream is deep and smooth, and it feels like the flavours engulf your entire face as you dive in, making every spoonful feel indulgent, satisfying... heavenly!
On top of the chendol, there’s a generous serving of premium durian and a scoop of velvety ice cream. The durian, fresh and aromatic, is the real star here. Even if you're not a huge durian fan, I’d still recommend giving this a try — it’s a flavour you’ll either love or be surprised by in the best way.
And, as if that wasn’t enough, Gula Melaka (palm sugar syrup) is served in a little tub on the side, letting you add as much (or as little) sweetness as you like. I won’t lie, I went for the full pour. The balance of sweetness from the syrup, the richness of the coconut milk ice, and the unique taste of durian makes this a dessert worth traveling for.
Mango Pudding: Light, Fruity, and Refreshing
If you're craving something a bit lighter, the mango pudding is an excellent choice. It’s not your usual, heavy mango mousse — this pudding is delicate and silky, and melts away as soon as it hits your tongue. The pudding itself is subtly sweet, with a smooth, almost jelly-like texture, complemented by small bursts of sago pearls that add a surprising pop of flavour.
To top it all off, the dessert comes with fresh mango chunks and a drizzle of mango syrup. The mango itself is absolutely perfect — it's not floral or overly sweet, just the right balance of tangy and juicy. The pudding is light and cool, making it the perfect palate cleanser or a refreshing treat on a warm day.
The addition of ice cream brings a little extra indulgence without being overwhelming, and the portion size is generous enough to leave you feeling satisfied without weighing you down.
Would We Travel for This? Absolutely!
One of the questions we always ask ourselves when trying new foods is: Would we travel specifically for this dish? In the case of Duke Dessert, the answer is a resounding yes. The chendol alone is worth the trip, and the mango pudding is a close second. The flavours are fresh, the presentation is beautiful, and the atmosphere is casual and inviting.
